Thanks for these. So about 1987 we reached the point where both men and women were getting an equal number of degrees. If feminism was about equality it should have stopped right there. But nooooooo. It's not about equality, its about advantage and control. More stuff for women, punish those selfish men.
I think that, to understand where 'feminism' went wrong we need to look at the marketing that was deliberately and expertly targeted at young women, who were making more money and were so easily persuaded to spend it on valuing themselves for no good reason except looking good. How much more important was that in changing women's views compared to the feminist theorists that nobody reads.
Did you ever see the Loreal ad that told women "you're worth it"? the Loreal ad campaign allied themselves with 'feminism' to sell more product and make more money.
That sort of feminism is the product of capitalism and the desire for profit.
"For the decade of rampant consumerism that took place before the epic financial crash of 2008, the tagline of choice could be L’Oréal’s ‘Because You’re Worth It’. Cunningly manipulative, the line reflects the self-absorption of those times, when it appeared that all we needed to do to be happy was buy more stuff."
Clearly women need more funding and more special "women in STEM" programs. We cannot allow this disparity to continue. Think about your daughters here. Women are so oppressed
This is a problem I think "No similar jobs were posted for increasing the number of male students in any field."
There really is a need for projects to encourage men to become primary school teachers nurses and child care workers. Men are needed in these areas desperately but there are so many barriers to their entry to these fields.
Why are there no programs for this? Because so many men would laugh at the idea that they should lower themselves and enter these female jobs?
"The NSW Department of Education is on a quest to get more men into teaching, but ongoing recruitment endeavours have failed to attract males to the female-dominated profession."
Most men are not going to go to work in an environment where they are by default thought to be rapists and pedophiles. He would REALLY have to like working with kids to want to endure that kind of hostility
Why do you think it is by default? Is that the received wisdom of the anti-feminist people?
I have been talking to the male teacher that works with one of my grandsons, a lot lately, grandson is being very badly behaved, and he gets on well with his female colleagues as far as I can see and is admired by them and I have never encountered this default hostility in any female teachers I have talked to over the years.
It seems to me it is parents who are more worried about the dangers of exposing their children to paedophiles and the idea that female teachers think all men are rapists is just seriously sick.
So what do you think can be done about that very real fear parents have, given the way it seems that so many men are paedophiles and rapists? We should give up on having men as teachers or sack all the feminist teachers.
Or should men be a bit braver and show they can do the job despite the risks because it is good for children. It wasn't easy at first, for women to work in male dominated environments for a long time but some of us persevered despite the default attitude being very negative and hostile.
Should there be government programs to tell us that paedophiles are rare and it is just a belief that bad feminists have forced on our society that men are bad, or do we need more anti-paedophile programs to stop men becoming paedophiles?
And the programs that are run to make women's lives and work better are not inspired or pushed by Universities but by women like Rosy Batty whose lives have been destroyed by a violent man and work like hell afterword to make the world a better place for non-violent people.
That is easy for you to say, when your career isn't in danger of being terminated due to false allegations of impropriety. Women did not just perservere in the face of a male attitude that was hostile and negative.
When women were not represented equally in business, education and technology, governments passed laws and pulled out all the stops to make the work environment more inclusive and to cater to the female sensibilities. We should do the same for industries and sectors that males are lacking representation in. Men should not have to endure a hostile working environment.
Are you in this situation? Your career is in danger of being terminated because of a false allegation of impropriety? Have you contacted your union for advice and help defending yourself against the false allegation?
I need more information about this vague real life example of feminism ruining men's lives.
I've not seen any stats that show that this is happening to men any more than would be considered normal in this world that thinks litigation is the way to solve problems.
But if you have clear evidence and facts, you can use them to show that these dreadful things are happening and how it is hurting men and society and that there should be programs and help for men.
But do tell me why are there no ideas about how to get men into the professions where women are dominant? Who is supposed to collect the evidence, make the argument for change and lobby government for fairness for men in the feminine professions like women did for our daughters and other women?
Anyway all I have to say is I think anti-feminists need to do more than be anti feminist and hanker for a past that never was. They need some ideas about how to cope and be happy.
There are no programs for this, as the universities are not incentivised to create the programs. There is no lowering of yourself to do these jobs. Is your last question rhetorical?
Well maybe 'lower' isn't the word but you tell me why men there are so few men in these areas, in primary school teaching and child care and nursing when it so important for boys to have men in these areas?
I have heard that it is not pleasant for men to work with women. They are bossy and not easy to get along with?
And I am sure that the dearth of men in these areas is because men do not value these roles; believing child rearing is less valuable work and is for women.
It's all the universities fault? That seems to be the thing to blame for the bad things that have happened to our society but it is clear that the role of universities has changed in the last few decades and their main role now is to be profitable.
The incentives are all financial not ideological, and I'd say that there is no money in encouraging young men to work with children.
For the Australian data used above, this seems to include both domestic students and international students... Women make up an increasingly large majority of domestic university students at Australian universities, going from 58% of course completions in 2004 to 62% in 2022. Out of each group of thirteen local graduates, eight are female and only five are male... At this trajectory, we will soon have two female graduates for every one male.
Yes, the data in the graphs representing Australia include both domestic and international students (and Australia has a comparatively high international student body). I believe the data from Canada and U.S. will also include international students who completed their degrees while attending universities in those countries.
What matters to young people in Australia/Canada/US is their education, career, and life prospects. As a boy or girl, what are their opportunities and challenges? Hence, the domestic student statistics are much more relevant... Does it help Aussie boys that there are more male international students at Aussie universities than there were 10 or 20 years ago? Not at all.
